Tommie Monez, MBA, CFP®, ChFC
Tommie’s life and career have followed a winding journey from the Mojave Desert to the California coast to Texas, Seattle, Florida, Connecticut and finally Virginia. After earning two Bachelor’s degrees (psychology and business administration) she worked as a financial analyst for Boeing Aerospace and then earned a MBA with an emphasis in finance. Financial Planning was just emerging as a serious profession and for Tommie it was the perfect blend of analytical finance with the opportunity to have a direct and beneficial effect on people’s lives.
Tommie earned her Certified Financial Planner designation in 1989 and she has been hooked on investment planning ever since. She has since earned the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) designation and continues to study and explore investment theory and behavioral finance through various industry organizations.
Like many investment advisors, Tommie’s initial experience involved investment sales for a brokerage firm. It didn’t take long for her to realize that the goals of the brokerage firm were often in conflict with that of her clients. With a passionate belief that the advisor should always be working in the best interest of the client, she has helped build and expand the client centered focus of our firm.
Tommie frequently contributes articles for Horsesmouth.com and MorningstarAdvisor.com. She is on the board of directors for the Financial Planning Association National Capital Area (FPA NCA) currently serving as Programs Co-Director where she has the opportunity to channel her interest in financial education.
